SREB Selects Megyesi as West Virginia's High-Quality Online Teacher

CHARLESTON — Anna Megyesi of Milton, West Virginia, was recognized today as West Virginia’s outstanding High-Quality Online Teacher for 2008-2009 by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB).

A high school Spanish teacher with the West Virginia Virtual School, Megyesi was presented with a certificate of commendation by Steven L. Paine, state superintendent of schools, in a ceremony at the State Board.

The West Virginia Virtual School nominated Megyesi for the online teacher recognition from SREB for her love of language and her enthusiastic embrace of integrating new and emerging technologies with language instruction. A veteran Spanish teacher in her second year with the state virtual school, Megyesi is known for her passion for teaching and has worked and studied in Colombia, Spain and Brazil.

This academic year, enrollment in the West Virginia Virtual School has grown to more than 2,000 students.

"SREB created this first-of-its-kind award to recognize the key role of the online teacher in providing top-quality instruction to students across West Virginia," said Bill Thomas, the director of SREB’s Educational Technology Cooperative. The Cooperative works with West Virginia and SREB’s other member states to give students online access to the academic courses they need, regardless of where they live.

In total, 11 online teachers in the SREB region will receive the award.
